In 2005, Hotez worked with Gavin Yamey from the Public Library of Science (PLoS) to secure seed support from the BMGF and create PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, the first open access journal for NTDs, 38 in addition to writing a book entitled, Forgotten People Forgotten Diseases. 39 The BMGF also supported advocacy and resource mobilization..
