Pieris plants like to grow in full sun or partial shade. They're happy with any aspect except north-facing, and prefer to be sheltered. One area where 'Forest Flame' is fussy, is soil pH. This plant will only thrive in acidic soil, so take special note and ensure your flowerbed contains the right type of soil.. The Pieris 'Forest Flame' is a very strong shrub that is able to survive the cold winter temperatures, making them perfect for gardens throughout the UK. Pieris 'Forest Flame' takes a while to fully mature. Some varieties, especially the taller ones, take up to 20 years. I prefer to take cuttings because they take a shorter time to grow compared to starting from seeds.. It should be transplanted to a full sun location. Also, the legginess cannot be corrected. It should be cut back almost to the ground - after you transplant it to a sunny location. Give a good feed with a balanced fertilizer.
